Houseplants for those aren’t blessed with the greenest of thumbs!

Houseplants for those aren’t blessed with the greenest of thumbs!

If you love the idea of having houseplants but aren’t blessed with the greenest of thumbs (we see you, accidental plant killers), don’t worry — not all houseplants are divas. In fact, some of them thrive on a bit of neglect. Whether you’re new to the world of indoor greenery or just looking to expand your jungle with fuss-free favourites, here’s a list of houseplants that are low on maintenance but high on style.

1. Snake Plant (Sansevieria)

Also known as Mother-in-Law’s Tongue (cheeky), this plant is virtually indestructible. It thrives in low light, doesn't need frequent watering, and helps purify the air. Water it every few weeks, and it’ll keep doing its thing with minimal effort.

2. ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia)

Shiny, sculptural leaves and a serious tolerance for forgetful owners — the ZZ plant is a dream for beginners. It handles low light and dry air well, and it’s not too bothered if you forget to water it now and then.

3. Succulents

Succulents like Echeveria and Haworthia come in all shapes and sizes and are as low-fuss as it gets. Pop them in a sunny spot, water when the soil is bone dry, and that’s it. Great for desks, windowsills, or even as a quirky centrepiece.

4. Pothos (Epipremnum aureum)

If you want something that grows fast and looks lush, Pothos is your plant. It thrives in most lighting conditions (though it loves bright, indirect light), and it’ll forgive you if you forget to water it. Bonus: you can trim it and grow more plants from the cuttings.

5. Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)

This 70s classic is making a big comeback — and for good reason. Spider plants are happy in most conditions, super easy to care for, and even grow cute baby offshoots you can replant or share with friends.

6. Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)

Don’t let the delicate-looking white blooms fool you — Peace Lilies are tough cookies. They let you know when they’re thirsty by drooping slightly (very helpful!), then perk right back up after a drink.

Tips to Keep Your Easy-Care Plants Happy:

  • Don’t overwater! Most houseplants prefer to dry out a bit between drinks.

  • Keep them away from cold drafts or scorching heat sources.

  • Wipe down leaves now and then so they can breathe (yes, really!).
